Guide for DJs
What's a QR code in the DJ booth for?
One visible code is enough for guests to request songs from their phones without coming up to the booth.

What is a DJ QR code and what is it for?
It's a code the DJ shows in the booth that, when scanned with a phone camera, opens their page to request songs. With WeSound, whoever scans it finds the song, adds a dedication if they want and sends it with a tip that's only charged if the DJ accepts the request.
How does WeSound's QR code work?
WeSound is an app and website to request songs from a live DJ and support them with a tip. When you sign up in the app you get your QR code. Show it in the booth or share the link, and whoever scans it lands on your page in their browser: wesound.pro/j/ followed by your name.
Guests don't need an app or an account. They search Spotify's catalogue for the song, add a dedication if they like, pick a tip and pay with Apple Pay, Google Pay or card. The tip is held until you accept the request.
Each request reaches you with the song, the dedication and the amount. Accept or decline with one tap and, when you play it, tap “Played”.
How does the QR code work with events?
Events give each night its own session and its own minimum tip.
Create the event
In the app, add the name, the venue and the night.
Set the minimum tip
Each event has its own. From that minimum, guests see four tip levels.
Activate it when you start
When the set begins, activate the event. From then on, anyone who scans your QR code goes straight to that session.
Handle the requests
Requests come in on your phone. You decide which to accept. Accept a request when you're about to play it.
Where should I put the QR code in the booth?
What matters is that it's visible from the dance floor and can be scanned without getting too close to your gear.
| Spot | Upside | Keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| On the front of the booth | Everyone looking at the DJ sees it. | Put it at a height people can point their phone at, with some light on it. |
| On a stand next to the booth | People scan it without stepping into your workspace. | Keep it out of the way so nobody knocks it over. |
| On a phone or tablet screen | Your QR code is always in the app, at hand. | Turn the brightness up and stop the screen from locking. |
| Shared as a link | Reaches people who aren't near the booth, or before the event. | At a wedding or private party, the host can pass it on to guests. |
In low light and with coloured lights, QR codes are harder to read. Try scanning it yourself from the dance floor before you start.
Why a QR code instead of requests at the booth?
Because while you play you need your hands and your attention on the mix. With a QR code nobody has to shout a song title in your ear: the request arrives in writing, with the exact song, and you look at it when it suits you.
Each request also comes with a tip for you. Signing up is free and WeSound keeps 15% of each accepted tip.
FAQ about the QR code
Do I need a different QR code for each event?
No. The QR code is yours. When you activate an event, anyone who scans it goes straight to that session.
Can the venue display my QR code?
Yes. WeSound doesn't have a dedicated product for venues, but a venue can encourage its DJs to use it and put their QR code where guests can see it.
Does it connect to my DJ software?
No. Requests reach the WeSound app on your phone, separate from your gear.
