How do you request a song from a DJ?
You can walk up to the booth at a quiet moment or, if the DJ has a WeSound QR code, scan it with your phone, find the song and send it with a tip. You don't need an app or an account, and the tip is only charged if the DJ accepts your request.
What are the ways to request a song from a DJ?
Each has its moment. What changes is how much it interrupts the DJ and whether your request gets through clearly.
| Method | How it works | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
| Going to the booth | You walk up and tell the DJ in person. | With loud music it's hard to hear each other and the DJ is focused on the mix. Wait for a gap between songs and say it in one sentence. |
| A paper note | You write down the song and artist and leave it in the booth. | The name arrives spelled right, but notes get lost among cables and glasses. |
| A social media message | You message the DJ on their profile during the set. | DJs rarely check messages while playing. It works better before or after. |
| Through the host | At a wedding or private party, the hosts hand the DJ a list. | Great for the key songs, not for what you think of on the dance floor. |
| The DJ's QR code with WeSound | You scan their code, pick the song and send it with a tip. | The request reaches the DJ's phone with the exact song, and they accept or decline it when it suits them. |
How do I request a song with WeSound?
WeSound is an app and website to request songs from a live DJ and support them with a tip. Here's how it works from the dance floor:
Scan the DJ's QR code
Point your phone's camera at the code in the DJ booth. Their page opens in your browser, with nothing to install and no account to create.
Find your song
Type the title or artist. Search uses Spotify's catalogue, so you get the exact version you want.
Add a dedication if you like
It's optional. We check every dedication before it reaches the booth, and some words aren't allowed.
Pick a tip and pay
Choose one of the tip levels and pay with Apple Pay, Google Pay or card. The tip is held on your card until the DJ accepts.
Follow your request
Leave your email and you'll get a receipt. With the app you'll see when the DJ accepts or declines your request and when it plays.
What happens after I send the request?
The DJ gets your request with the song, your dedication if you added one and the tip amount. One tap to accept or decline. The DJ decides what plays in their set: nothing goes in unless they accept it.
If they accept, you're charged the tip you chose, with no extra fees. If they decline or time runs out, the hold is released and you pay nothing.
If the DJ accepts your request and the song never plays, tell us in the app with “The song didn't play”. We'll look into it and, if you're right, we'll refund you. The app shows how long you have to let us know.
You can have several active requests with the same DJ, up to a limit at a time, so the queue doesn't fill up with one person's requests.
How do I get the DJ to accept my song?
There's no guarantee: the DJ reads the room and decides. What does help is asking for something that fits what's playing and the kind of party.
- Request early, not in the last fifteen minutes of the set.
- Skip songs that just played or that would completely break the night's flow.
- If the song has a reason behind it, say it in the dedication in one line.
- If it's declined, don't push at the booth: you haven't been charged and you can try another one.
FAQ about requesting songs
Do I need to download an app to request a song?
No. Scan the DJ's QR code and do it all in your phone's browser. The app lets you follow your request and know when it plays.
Do I need to create an account?
No. Your email is optional: it's for the receipt and for saving the request to your account if you sign in to the app later.
How much does it cost to request a song?
Whatever you choose to tip, with no extra fees. Each DJ sets a minimum tip per event and there are four levels from there. If the event sets no minimum, the levels are €4, €6, €10 and €16.
What if the DJ doesn't have a WeSound QR code?
Then it's the old way: walk up between songs and say it in one sentence. And if you think it would help, tell them about WeSound.
