How do you tip a DJ?
You can hand it over in cash at the booth or, if the DJ has a WeSound QR code, send it from your phone along with the song you request. With WeSound you pay with Apple Pay, Google Pay or card, and the tip is held until the DJ accepts your request: if they don't, you're not charged.
What are the ways to tip a DJ?
They don't all work the same on a packed dance floor. Here's what changes between them.
| Method | How it works | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|
| Cash at the booth | You walk up and hand the DJ the money or drop it in a tip jar. | You need cash on you and have to approach the booth mid-set. The DJ doesn't always know who it's from or why. |
| Mobile payment or bank transfer | You ask the DJ for their number or account and send the money. | You have to ask for personal details in the middle of a set, and it isn't tied to any song. |
| Generic tipping apps | You scan a code and leave an amount. | Fine for saying thanks, but not built for requesting a specific song. |
| With your song on WeSound | You scan the DJ's QR code, pick a song and a tip, and pay. | The tip is held and only charged if the DJ accepts your request. |
How do I tip a DJ with WeSound?
WeSound is an app and website to request songs from a live DJ and support them with a tip. The tip always comes with a request.
Scan the DJ's QR code
Their page opens in your phone's browser. No app or account needed.
Pick your song
Search by title or artist and add a dedication if you like.
Choose a tip level
There are four levels, starting from the minimum tip the DJ sets for that event. You pay exactly the level you choose, with no extra fees.
Pay with Apple Pay, Google Pay or card
Payments are processed by Stripe. At this point the tip is held on your card, not charged yet.
The DJ decides
If they accept your request, the tip is charged. If they decline or time runs out, the hold is released automatically.
Why is the tip held instead of charged straight away?
Because the DJ decides what plays. If your song doesn't fit their set, it's only fair you don't pay for it. So when you pay, the amount is just reserved on your card. It's charged when the DJ accepts the request.
If the DJ declines or time runs out without them accepting, the hold is released and you pay nothing. How long your bank takes to show the released amount depends on your bank.
And if the DJ accepts your song but it never plays, tell us in the app with “The song didn't play”. We'll look into it and, if you're right, we'll refund you. The app shows how long you have to let us know.
Who gets the tip?
The DJ playing that night. WeSound keeps a 15% fee on each accepted tip and the rest goes to the DJ's bank account. Nothing is added on your side: you pay exactly the tip you choose.
It's your way of thanking the DJ for the song and for the night.
